Actor Daniel Radcliffe’s life changed forever when he was cast as Harry Potter, but there was a time when he wanted to quit being an actor. Casting director Janet Hirshenson once recalled the story of how Radcliffe, and his co-stars Emma Watson and Rupert Grint were cast in the series.
She told the Huffington Post in 2015 that the process was very intense, because of author JK Rowling’s demand that only British actors be cast. Besides, Harry needed to be of a specific age, and have green eyes. “For Harry, to complicate things, I needed a blue or green-eyed kid because part of Harry is his green eyes or blue-green, but they couldn’t be brown eyes, so that was another elimination thing. We said, ‘Oh, drat! He’s great, but he has brown eyes,’” she said.
When they found Radcliffe, Hirshenson said that ‘he just wasn’t interested. He didn’t want to be an actor anymore.’ But director Chris Columbus and producer David Heyman were quite impressed with him. “One evening, David Heyman the producer went to the theatre and he knew Daniel’s father, who was an agent … so the producer ran into Daniel and his dad and said to Daniel, ‘Why don’t you come in and audition? Think about it.’ So he said, ‘OK.’”
Hirshenson continued, “We must’ve had about six Harrys, only two or three Hermiones ― there wasn’t a lot ― and there was probably five-ish Rons.” She said that Watson immediately caught everyone’s attention. “For the Hermiones, as soon as Emma came on, there were six of us in the screening room. We just gasped. It was like, ‘Oh my God.’ Like, ‘Whoaaa!’ She took up the screen,” she said. For Ron, it was Grint’s face that sold it.
After wrapping on the Harry Potter films, Daniel Radcliffe became famous for his wildly varied choice of roles, which have taken his career down interesting paths, to say the least. He has voiced his concerns about being typecast in interviews, so his return to on-screen magic in 2016’s Now You See Me 2 was a pleasant surprise. Now, his fans may expect him to reprise his role in the franchise because Now You See Me 3 is in the works, and it is rumored to star not only new A-listers but also the bulk of its already familiar cast.
Daniel appeared in the second installment of what is now to be a trilogy of films as Walter Mabry, a young technology tycoon who faked his death to go off-grid. Every story needs a good villain, right? And every villain needs a hell of an introduction. Mabry’s big entrance didn’t really go off without a hitch; he may be an expert at disappearing acts but not so much at card tricks. Check out a clip of Daniel as Mabry in Now You See Me 2.
A lot of 90s kids have grown up reading and watching Harry Potter. JK Rowling wrote these books that took us to the magical adventure in Hogwarts. Everyone fell in love with Daniel Radcliffe from the first film itself.
What made Harry Potter movies a huge success was the way these books made into movies. They were interesting and entertaining. But one cannot forget the perfect casting. Just like Daniel, actors like Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith and others were totally suitable for their roles. Hogwarts might be all magical, but the real world isn’t the same. Controversies happen here and celebs are often dragged into them.
We all love Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint. Today, they might be busy in their life. But there was a time when they made headlines in an alleged weed smoking scandal. As reported by Independent.co.uk in 2009, the Harry Potter star was accused of allegedly smoking cannabis joint at a party. On another occasion, Rupert Grint aka Ron Weasley was pictured smoking weed. However, their spokesperson had denied the news. Shockingly, one of their co-stars had accepted growing weed at his family home. Read on to know more deets.
Having made more than enough money to last him a lifetime while still a teenager, Daniel Radcliffe has used his post-Harry Potter career to establish himself as one of the most interesting actors working today. After all, not a lot of stars with his level of fame would dive headfirst into playing white supremacists, a guy with guns surgically bolted onto his hands or farting corpses, with the 30 year-old making a conscious effort to distance himself from the role that made him famous.
Daniel Radcliffe hopes JK Rowling’s comments about gender will not “taint” the Harry Potter series for fans.
In a statement posted on an LGBT suicide prevention charity website, the actor said: “Transgender women are women.
“Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people.”
JK Rowling had been criticised for tweets taking issue with the phrase “people who menstruate”.
Radcliffe said this was not about “in-fighting” and added he felt “compelled to say something” because Rowling was responsible for the “course his life has taken”.
‘Love is the strongest force’
Writing on The Trevor Project’s website he said he was sorry to anyone whose “experience of the [Harry Potter] books has been tarnished”.
“If these books taught you that love is the strongest force in the universe… that dogmatic ideas of pureness lead to the oppression of vulnerable groups; if you believe that a particular character is trans, non-binary, or gender fluid, or that they are gay or bisexual; if you found anything in these stories that resonated with you and helped you at any time in your life – then that is between you and the book that you read, and it is sacred.
“I hope that these comments will not taint that too much.”
